About Ambreshwar Mandir in Ambernath:

Built in a typical Hemadpanthi style, the Ambreshwar Temple in Ambernath is a prime religious destination in Thane District of Maharashtra. Popularly known as the Shiv Mandir of Ambernath, the Ambreshwar Temple is listed among the oldest temples of Maharashtra.  Ambreshwar which means the Lord of the Sky, is what gives the town its name Ambernath. Though the Ambreshwar Temple was built by King Chittaraja of the Silhara Dynasty around 1000 years ago as per the inscriptions written towards the northern doors of the temple, yet the numerous legendary tales attached to it has also mentions the relation of this temple with Pandavas.

 The temple is huge and built in a Hemadpanthi style with beautiful stone carvings of dieties all around the outer walls. With three porches around the temple, one gets to access the main temple which has beautiful carved pillars and the stone carved Nandi Bull in the center. One has to climb down 20 steps to reach the main Gabhara where the Shivlinga is placed. Most of all one can find this ancient temple in a good shape though restoration has been done to restore the side wall of the Ambreshwar Temple.

The temple is decorated with lights on Mahashivratri. A huge fair is organized every year during Mahashivratri and people from all around Thane District make it a point to visit the temple and the fair.

When to visit Ambreshwar Temple in Ambernath:

Ambreshwar Temple can be visted throughout the year, as Ambernath overall enjoys a good climate throughout the year. But the temple is at its best during Mahashivratri Fair which is held during Mahashivratri either in February or in first week of March.
